With the upcoming Christmas holidays comes the hard task for the parents and grand parents to choose a gift for their kids. With the huge selection of toys available everyone wonders if the children will like the toy or not. This especially very difficult with the kids at the age of 5 and more. At that age they are starting to be more selective about the toys they play with and it has to be engaging and amusing for them to like it. The Brothers Grimm Then and Now
Even after two centuries, the work of the Brothers Grimm remains a persistent part of our culture. Their fairy tales captured morals and subjects that continue to reach us on a level that other earlier folklore cannot. Their texts manifest themselves in our contemporary culture, in films, books, plays, and various other forms of media.
The Grimm Brothers began collecting folklore around Germany in the early 1800s. They traveled throughout Germany, listening to people’s tales and transcribing them until they had a completed manuscript in 1812. Their desire to collect these tales was not pre-empted by a desire to share magical stories, but rather a desire to preserve Germanic heritage. Although they are the most famous of German fairy tale writers, the Grimm Brothers were not the first to write and publish folk and fairy tales.
